I’ve been looking into do a simple, but effective workout routine. I have also read that isometric exercises both tone and enlarge your muscles, but retaining your strength too. I just want to know if there are any isometric exercises out there that can tone legs. Also do you burn any fat from isometric exercises.

Isometrics is based on the principles of creating muscular tension while opposing the force of an immovable object or gravity. Both, Yoga and Pilates are based on the principles of Isometrics: holding your body in a static, neutral alignment with body positions of Your choice.

Studies have shown that that a 7 second muscle contraction increases your strength by about 5 percent. You can also Google Dr. Theodore Hettinger and Dr. Eric A. Muller if you want to read more about it.

Yes you can and will lose fat when you do isometric exercises. Read up on isometric exercises on the web site below.

Besides walking, swimming, all of the cardio exercises, I am wanting to know some good muscle toning exercises to do as well. I know of the Kegel exercises. I know that you can pretty much do any arm/shoulder exercises with dumbells just as easy while pregnant. What about for butt and thighs? Are squats/lunges okay? How about pelvic lifts? Any other good ones that you know of?

Squats and lunges are great, they prepare your muscles for birth, pelvic lifts are ok to an extent, at a certain point some docs will tell you to stay off of your back, others say if it is comfy no prob, talk to yours.

I’m playing softball this spring and I was wondering what kind of free weight exercises and exercises with the bat I could do to be able to bat better. Right now, I’m only lifting in the weight room and I’m only doing bench presses and curls… Any suggestions?
I do also run a lot for base running, and plus, I have to stay in shape for soccer.

It’s been a while since I have trained for baseball, but as far as hitting goes along with weight training I remember that we focused mostly on the small muscle groups with light free weights, working more on quickness than anything. You would also want to work on your legs that is where a large amount of your power is coming from. More than anything though as others have said get some quality time in the cage and work on building good habits with your swing.

I have an almost flat stomach, and I’d like to make the lower abs a little bit tighter. I a lot of sit-ups as it is, but they don’t seem to be targeting my lower abs. What are some exercises that will help to tighten my lower abdominal muscles? (And possibly my waist?)

Hi,

Reverse crunches strengthen the lower abdominals.
Lie on your back, hands flat on the floor. Knees bent, raise your legs up as far as you can. Lift your bottom off the floor if you can, then slowly lower legs.
Repeat for 25 repetitions. Do 3 sets.

Don’t forget to strengthen ALL of your abdominals for the best effect.
Upper abs= normal crunches/sit-ups.
Obliques (sides)= bicycle crunches, which is elbow to opposite knee.

To tighten the waist, do side bends while holding 2 dumbells.
Lean to the left, hold, then the right. Slow and controlled.

Good luck.

I sprained my right foot 3 weeks ago, and I don’t want to gain back the 90 pounds I’ve lost already. My doc says to keep off it and wrap in ACE bandage. I can barely walk 100 feet, but am getting bad atrophy in the arms, legs, and abdomen as I can’t make it to gym. What exercises can I do?

Talk to a physical therapist and/or your doctor. Explain your problems and they can devise a plan to help keep the muscle there.

At pt, they have a thing that sends electrical impulses through your muscles to get them to work. Also, maybe you coudl things that wouldn’t have you bear weight on the foot. Perhaps straight leg raises while lying down?

Good luck :)

Atrophy is my worst enemy

Knee injury caused me to lose so my of my hard worked for muscle.

I am a High and Long Jumper for winter and spring track and i want to kno what would be some exercises to jump higher and farther. And maybe a good routine to use to get ready for it.

1. Approach work, approach work, approach work…..
2. Short run jumps- 6 to 10 strides
3. Short run jumps to a raised take-off. 6 to 10 strides to a box will elevate the jumper and allow for flight technique work. Landing in the vault or high jump pit is excellent for this drill.
4. Pop-ups- short run emphasizing the take-off action and the vertical impulse. This is also a great drill to work on the slide landing technique.
5. Low hurdles with a one step (two support) recovery-Jumper goes over the hurdle with the emphasis on the vertical component. When he/she lands, think: "one… TWO". Concentrate on the short radius movements and the vertical impulse.
6. Plyometrics. Speed plyos, depth plyos, rhythm plyos.
7. Full run jumps- These are important to put the whole package together. They are especially important to the newcomer to the event. Athletes can only be expected to do a very few repetitions of this kind of drilling.

It can be very discouraging when your child does not want to participate in exercise of any kind. More and more children are becoming slaves to the television or videos games, and they are refusing to submerge long enough to breathe let alone participate in fitness of any kind. Here are kids fitness exercises that can be introduced into your child’s life painlessly though, and they can help to keep your child active for years to come.

A Peer Environment

Some kids do better when they have others that are their age participating in an activity with them. So, try to fine kids fitness exercises that they can do with their friends or even new children that they have never met. For instance, you can enroll them in karate or kick boxing class for boys, and gymnastics or cheerleading for girls. A peer environment also encourages them to try their best and not quit, so they are more likely to stick with that particular form of exercise.

Make it a Game

If you want to find kids fitness exercises that your child will actually take part in, then you may need to look towards the video games that you loath. There is now a new wave of video games for children of all ages that focus on getting your child up and moving. These games are not only for older kids, there are ones for younger children as well, and even you might enjoy getting in on a game every once in a while.

Get Them Interested

Try to find something that your child is interested in. If they have always tried to set and reach amazing goals, maybe you could sign the two of you up for a marathon and have fun practicing together. Or, perhaps they love to watch a particular kind of sports game on TV. Why not sign them up for a season at their school or local community center to see if they enjoy it? The idea is to make the exercise something that they like so that they will continue to do it.

Help Them Get a Job

Believe it or not you can kill two birds with one stone when you are trying to find kids fitness exercises that work for your child. There are plenty of jobs for older children that incorporate some form of exercise, and the lure of money may be too good for them to pass up. Examples of jobs that might contain a fair amount of exercise include dog walking, car washing, lawn mowing, or newspaper delivery. You will be happy because your children are getting exercise, and they will be pleased with some money in their pockets.

There are a variety of ways to incorporate kids fitness exercises into your child’s daily life. Whether you have to trick them into it, or simply find something they like, your child will be happier and healthier thanks to your effort.

I want to build lean muscle, not bulky muscle. What are some good exercises I should do at the gym with hand weights. Not the weight machines, I already do those.

I am also looking to be very healthy, the problem is I have fructose intolerance, meaning I can’t have sugars and other sugar alcohols. I can’t have a lot of fruit and vegetables (like apples, they are mostly fructose) so I am left eating a lot of carbs and meats. Any ideas?

Hey,
I found a great diet plan on http://www.topfatburningtips.com that I am addicted to. It has everything I need and everyone I would want to eat.

No one is perfect and no one wants to stick to perfect food, but good food, so check it out.
