How to select a personal trainer in relation to body type?

I’m 5′7 short and stocky with broad shoulders. I tend to put weight on pretty easily and I’m looking to find a personal trainer who would be able to develop a fitness routine to enable me to tone up and not put a lot of muscle mass on.

I’m interested in knowing whether I should find a personal trainer who is of a similar body type, or should I find a trainer who has had experience working with other people of my body type?
